Did somebody say, middle school?

“Transitions themselves are not the issue; it is our response to them that matters.” – Unknown

6TH GRADE

6th Grade covers the subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English & Literature

This is where things really get serious. Middle school is the time when we use elementary school as the foundation of a student’s education and build upon it with loads of new information and new experiences. The transition from 5th grade to 6th grade is a huge one and comes with many challenges, but, challenges are what help us grow. Not to mention 6th isn’t just a challenge but it comes with a whole new world of fun and excitement! Students get to gain vastly new experiences than what they had in elementary and they get to walk a new road of academic advancement. They learn brand new ideas and concepts and their passion for learning is increased. We strive and work to make every student’s 6th-grade year one that will mark a pivotal moment in their lives.

6th grade is more than just a new academic chapter; it opens the door to a world overflowing with opportunities for exploration and discovery. Students are open to advanced concepts and new learning methods, igniting their curiosity. This year is designed to be both challenging and exhilarating, providing a stimulating environment where students can thrive and expand their educational horizons.

New Subject: Literature

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
— F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

It’s in 6th grade that NRTA introduces a brand new topic to our students. Literature. We believe that literature is crucial in a child's education because it opens students up to different cultures, historical periods, and perspectives, helping them develop a broader understanding of the world around them and what it was like before them. Studying literature enhances critical thinking and analysis, allowing students to interpret complex ideas and enhance their creative thinking. It stimulates creativity by sparking imagination and encourages emotional intelligence through exploring characters' experiences. Alongside this, diving into literature helps provide students with valuable historical and social context, deepening students' knowledge of past and present societies. All in all, literature fosters personal growth, self-awareness, and a lifelong love of learning, making it a vital part of NRTA’s education curriculum.
