how did WE start?
the beginning.
New Ransom Temple Academy was founded in 2018 in response to the declining quality of education within the public school system in Southside Greensboro. The community and the pastor of New Ransom Temple, a local church situated in the heart of the area, became increasingly concerned as test scores dropped and incidents of bullying rose. The idea that public schools could provide an enriching and nurturing environment for children was a dying fantasy.
the Action
Recognizing this, Bishop Wilbert Williams proposed establishing a school to give local children a fair chance in life despite their challenging circumstances. The community rallied behind this vision, united in their commitment to create an environment where children could thrive not only academically but also in character. After significant research, numerous monetary donations, and a burning commitment, New Ransom Temple Academy became a reality.
THE REPSONSE
We started small, with just one volunteer teacher and five kindergarten students, along with four first-grade students—a total of nine students. Admittedly, the beginning was rough. Part of our church building had to be renovated into a classroom. The technical structure of the school system was not fully established, and finances were tight, making growth and sustainability challenging. But with our passion for providing these kids with the best possible learning environment, failure was not an option. We persevered.
THE NOW
By the 2021-2022 school year, we had grown to two volunteer teachers and 12 students, consisting of four kindergartners, four-second graders, and four third graders. Despite the challenges, the school continued to grow. The following year, we gained one more student. The year after that, we saw even more growth.
Today, New Ransom Temple Academy serves 23 students with six dedicated teachers. The progress our students have made and the goals they have achieved have made every minute of hard work and sacrifice worthwhile. Our school currently offers education in Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade.
