Academics at NRTA
Why we value good education
At NRTA a quality education is of the highest importance. The lack of readily available quality education for the youth in not only our area but also in the broader Greensboro area and beyond was the very reason why we were established. For this reason, we greatly emphasize the value of it not only for one’s academic future but in their life overall.
These are the stats:
According to recent PARCC assessment results (DC Action, 2023), proficiency rates reveal significant disparities among students. Specifically, 23% of Black students and 32% of Latinx students were proficient in reading, a stark contrast to 82% of their white peers. In math, only 11% of Black students and 19% of Latinx students demonstrated proficiency, compared to 75% of white students, as reported by the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). These figures highlight a failing public school system that perpetuates existing issues within our very own communities. To drive meaningful change and improve these conditions, we needed to prioritize a strong educational system within our school.
How we do it
Curriculum:
BJU Press Homeschool Curriculum
NRTA has selected BJU Press as our primary education curriculum because of its strong emphasis on a biblical worldview and its focus on fostering critical thinking abilities. The curriculum integrates multisensory learning through thoughtfully designed activities and lessons, ensuring that optimal academic practices are at the forefront of its structure.
Our classroom sizes are smaller allowing for more personalized attention and a closer-knit community. This environment fosters deeper connections between teachers and students, enabling tailored instruction that meets individual learning needs. Students feel more comfortable participating, asking questions, and engaging in discussions, which enhances their overall educational experience. The benefits extend beyond academics, as the intimate setting also promotes social and emotional growth, ensuring that each student is not just a number, but a valued member of the classroom.
Core Subjects:
Mathematics, Language Arts/English, Science, and Social Studies
Educational Approach:
Recognizing each child’s unique gifts and abilities, we provide personalized instruction and support to help students achieve their academic and spiritual potential. At NRTA we don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Every child's mind is wired differently. They think differently, they see differently, and they learn differently. Therefore the approach we take is first learning how each child learns and processes information, then catering our teaching style to accommodate each child. Beyond this, our teachers engage one-on-one with every child and are eager to assist them whenever it is needed. We emphasize this so much because when we invest time in these students we aren’t just investing in them. We are investing in our future.

sUPPORT THE KNIGHTS
You can make a difference. With every gift you make, you support our goal of expanding to where we can accept every child in need of an environment where they can excel not only academically, but in character as well. An environment where they can reach their fullest potential. And we believe, that’s something every child unequivocally deserves.
